Dune Reaper by BenWootten Dune Reaper by BenWootten
This piece is for the recently released 'Dark Sun Creature Catalog', revisiting the great setting DarkSun . This was great fun to work on, heaps of great creatures found on and under the sands under a dark sun.

a flea lizard? It would be better if there was a smoother transition between insect and reptile

Wow I would hate to run into one of those. I love the little hairs around the face. I would love to see how this thing would move. Whether it skitters like a lizard or burrows under the sand. Pretty awesome!!

I think it burrows and and ambushes prey, the hairs feel the vibrations of approaching morsels

I think you're right. That sounds more likely than moving like a lizard. So I'm guessing it doesn't have very good eyesight as well. I just can't get over how cool it's design is^^

just the fact it was always a desert in the game and water was a commodity like gold.certainly didnt help when the narrative read by our DM always used colorful adjectives to really help you feel the heat from the world.Shit now im thirsty again

A shrimp lizard! Very cool. Or more like half preying mantis I guess.

For me its the contrast between the dark brown chitinous plates and the pale, termite-like skin underneath. I see what you're saying though, that entire head construction is spot on

When you go to Athas, bring a can of Raid. Or a few hundred cans.

Thanks dude, there is a bit of cockroach influence in the colour scheme, think that helps with the creepy feel without being obvious

Wow. The texture on the beast are amazing. The whisker hairs lend a cool personality to it as well. Awesome work.
