Owl Bear by BenWootten Owl Bear by BenWootten
Another old school classic from AD&D, makes as much sense now as it did 30 years ago :)

Interior art for Dungeon Denizens Revisited, Paizo Publishing

I didn't even know this creature existed (in the metaphorical sense) until about ten minutes ago, and it is a brilliant monster concept! Great interpretation, mate!

Huge thanks, these guys have been a D&D staple monster for about 40 years now, so it was great to get to put my spin on the concept.

I love that species. Despite their sharp claws and beak, they look cuddly and fluffy. Always felt sorry when I had to kill one.

Did you know that the MMORPG Everquest, which does not base on AD&D, has the very same species?

owl bears and kobolds hold a big place i my heart.
a running joke in my campaigns are kobolds rideing some randome animals charging with makeshift lances.
And owlbears, ents and druids talking about tree stuff while the PCs sets fire to the forest.

Ben, I ran across this image during a Google search for something completely unrelated. This may be the most amazing thing I've ever seen. Do you have this in a high-res format? I want one of these in order to frame it.

I do have a hi-res version of this and would be happy to do a print for you, what sort of price range were you thinking so I can look at the print options and give you a good idea of price vs size vs quality.

Cheers Ben

I thought this was the Grizzly Owl from Dragon Warrior Monsters, this( and all of your beasts) are simply brilliant. Not only do you have good conceptualization but you also have the capacity to carry out the concept.

I commend you as an artist~!

I have a quick question--I've been using this as a reference for a sprite for a website, and only just noticed the first comment with the whole copyright deal. I'm making the sprite from scratch, but as this is the best picture I could find out there, both the pose and style are based off of it. I don't want to infringe on anything--it's just an adoptables site, but it is not non-profit--but I don't want to automatically scrap it because I'm paranoid as it's been turning out so well.

Again, I'm making the sprite entirely by hand--the picture is only a reference. But it's such a heavy one I feel like I'm treading on unstable ground right now, so if you could give me a yea-or-nea I'd really appreciate it.

I am very happy for you to use this as a template for a painting. I only ask that you reference my work and that it is to be used for a non-profit piece as Paizo Publishing own the copyright to the work.

Thaks for asking and I can't wait to see what you do:)

Cheers Ben
