Happens to my Dad all the time ... if it's a really difficult piece it doesn't matter how many compliments he gets ... he's just not satisfied.  Thing is ... as you struggle to bring your vision to life you get better ... so it's a speed-bump but like it or not it's helped make you a better artist.  Like an athlete who struggles with a certain play-style or technique ... once you've mastered it ... it might feel like you didn't do your best work in retrospect but in fact you're just that much better now and the success over struggle should be celebrated.  This is an amazing piece  and the next time you try something like this it will be easier and you'll have a new plateau to work through. :D
